I’m in Greece; excuse my lack of response and posts. I return May 9th. I’ll probably post intermittantly. Pictures to come.
Athens is overcast and muggy. My friend Tracy and I climbed the long hill to the parthenon, then climbed a couple more for kicks. It’s amazing– as soon as you leave the “big attraction” most sites are deserted this time of year. Yet it’s warm and beautiful. Wildflowers cover all the anchient ruins, warming them, reinventing them.
Still, I’m itching to settle down and get at the book. The current game plan is to pick an island– either paros or milos — and set up camp. Then we write/paint for three hours in the morning and three in the evening with hiking in the middle. I’ve brought along Larence Durell’s Alexandria Quartet to fill in the holes. I hear I’m in for a treat.
I finished Club Dumas on the plane. It’s cut rate metafiction, and written (or translated) rather clumsily, but it entertaining. The film 9th gate was based in it, FYI.
More later, as I find places to hide and write (and hopefuly connect my own laptop….)
