   Love this, but wondering if a social factor is missing. Being part of a community that is motivating and fun.

   At Yahoo, the number one reason people liked working there was the other people, so you are likely correct.
   Sometimes I think norms are part of it too, though that falls into meaning– if the company has different values than you do, you will be unhappy.

   Yes. In the book “Drive” of Daniel H. Pink, there are 3 factors: Autonomy, Mastery and Meaning (assume that you can pay your bills with your salary :P)
