I suddenly wondered what my world view would be if I read nothing but slashdot and design is kinky.

Well, it has got me starting to think about mindset, and how what you read can be a way to dig a ever deepening groove into yourself causing you to believe more deeply what you already believe.

Slashdot & Design is Kinky is a fun combo, because they are slightly different grooves: you might be obsessed wiht only design and tech and never think once about users. What would come out of that self-obsessed cycle, I wonder?

What if you only read comm arts and use it?

    Eric Meyer and Dave Weiner?

Me, I’ve been trying to force myself out of my grooves by reading everything.

Reading everything, if you have the time, is a wonderful hobby. I have been so happy with the advent of RSS feeds in my life. I can devour 148 or more feeds in about an hour, where as I was spending two or three hours getting through 30 to 50 sites per night.

There is such a great need for cross pollenating ones reading lists as there are great ideas that can help a broad variety of disciplines, but the processes and approaches are harbored in one sect. Branching out and even reading more seriously across disciplines such as from economics, horticulture, technology, urban studies, etc. can open ones eyes to various patterns that can peel away the blinders that keep us from seeing the problems as well as having tools to solve what others do not see.
