Victor Lombardi Argus Associates is closing down. So says Louis Rosenfeld in an email to the SIGIA list, citing a lack of resources to weather the current tech slowdown. It's unfortunate for the industry because they set the standard for information architecture. Hopefully these folks will incrementally improve other shops by spreading their wisdom. I wish them the best. I've been thinking about the slowdown in terms of the big company I work
for. We clearly grew very fast to compete with the Sapients and Scients
of the world. Now we know the growth wasn't sustainable, but perhaps it
earned us brand recognition that we wouldn't have otherwise, enough to
stay afloat after shedding a few layers. Or maybe all those layers will
just prolong our death, we'll see. But I can stop wondering if I'd be
better off in a small shop, because even a great smaller shop like Argus
faced an insurmountable challenge. Victor Lombardi |
