Everyone's read "the book," but it's not the book that necessarily counts. Everyone's been to a conference or two, read the postings to the lists and regularly scanned the ACIA site to see what's new in our IA world. Strangely, though, it doesn't seem to me as though these specific things matter most.

What matters most to me is the community Argus has built -- a gathering, a community that once was much less stable, significantly less connected. Thanks to your collective efforts, we're no longer a group of bright folks wandering around on our own, like unconnected dots, trying to codify this thing called information architecture.

Now, we're an equitable community. Now, we're a force. Designers, programmers, producers, clients and investors love us and can't stand us, often at the same time.

We're causing trouble -- not for the sake of doing so, but because information architecture is extremely relevant. And I have the Argus gang to thank for teaching me that -- through "the book," the ACIA articles, the list and the conference, through the creation of this community. Thanks Argus...
