The web will miss youArgus Associates was a pioneering information architecture (IA) consulting and design firm. On March 13th, 2001, Argus announced they were ceasing operations, unable to survive the sudden and drastic downturn in the US economy. The announcement shocked and saddened the information architecture community, a community which Argus played a unique and important role in creating. Of course, Argus was not alone in defining and advancing information architecture. Many others have made significant contributions to the field. But Argus clearly played an important and unique role. Because their demise was so suprising, so stunning, and so unfortunate it seemed appropriate to recognize their contributions and the huge influence Argus had on IA's everywhere. While we are sad, we are also happy to have such fine role models as Peter Morville and Lou Rosenfeld, and perhaps with ACIA's continued exploration of the emerging art of IA we shall get our chance--one way or another--to be Argonauts.
